Woe Is Me, I Am Undone: The Science of Glee

May 25th, 2009 § 3 by C

It’s a miracle that I didn’t notice this earlier, but apparently my mind was utterly blown to smithereens at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday night, May 19th. It is a scientific fact that this clip and my wholly intact brain cannot coexist in the same universe; the fact that I just watched the pilot a few minutes ago is immaterial. Clearly, I’ve been dead for about a week now, and it’s a miracle that I’ve been able to dress myself for the last several days.

FOOM.

A, we owe Fox a debt that we will likely never repay. And apparently they owe me some serious reconstructive surgery and a new area rug.

Concerning Michael Jackson

November 8th, 2008 § 0 by C

Vindicated by the King of Rock:

Absolute FOOM, my friends.

1. It had long been my dream that one day a brave Freshman at NSA would throw Tolkien and Monty Python to the wind and do Thriller (or at the very least Beat It) for the much-loved annual Latin Projects. Though Latin projects themselves seem to have been murdered and buried (only to be resurrected as brain-eating zombies in the occasional YouTube offering), I can die happy knowing this exists instead.

2. This song was a painful reminder to me of how utterly peerless Michael Jackson is when it comes to vocal performance. The fact that the guy can croon while moonwalking in goat-pants and white socks pretty much ensures that he will forever stand shoulder to shoulder with the gods of Rock History. Though the fellow singing does a good job (and gets better as the performance continues), he barely holds a flint and steel to MJ’s flaming gas giant of awesomeness.

This Squirrel is Probably More Talented than Griffey

This squirrel is my new personal hero. I am going to draw a picture of him and put it on my shirt.

The animal instinct that drives some to streak during major sporting events turns out to originate from a different type of animal than we all expected.

Facebook Obamabortion Followup

August 27th, 2008 § 2 by C

A few of you may recall my despair over that Facebook exchange I had a bit ago, and how I was riddled with doubt over its profitability. Were other Christians really that calloused? Was I going soft and being willfully naive?

Well, an old friend from high school looked me up yesterday after randomly visiting my Facebook page and following the deluge of links on my feed to the debate in question. What transpired was an IM conversation that was pretty encouraging to me, and thought I’d pass it all on to you guys (with some editing for clarity and one minor mental lapse on my part):

(16:08:41) K. You know what’s funny. This might be hard to explain…lot’s of thoughts I’m trying to parse it here…hang tight for a moment:
(16:12:44) K. Christianity, at least to me, has been reduced to sound-bytes that (again, to me) seem to pit the religion and intelligence at odds with one another. So much of the “vocal right” is brain-dead, that in my world-view “belief in God” and “rational discourse” were mutually exclusive. So much so that it has gotten to the point where I’ve actually ignored people mid-conversation once I found out their religious beliefs. I’m not proud of it, but it’s the truth. I’ve literally, for about the last three years, HATED what Christianity has done to this country. Which of course, morphed into a hatred for the religion itself. » Read the rest of this entry «
